Meet Our Pediatric Dental Specialists

Enjoying children’s sense of humor and excitement for life is why I love working with kids.  My greatest rewards are the healthy, genuine smiles I see on patients’ faces after showing them that a visit to the dentist is a positive, inspiring experience, especially if in doing so I have alleviated previous fears.

I graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.  I then completed my dental education at the University of Connecticut, where I received my Doctor of Dental Medicine.  I obtained additional training in a hospital-based general practice residency at the University of Colorado.

Completing my specialty training in pediatric dentistry at the University of Minnesota has given me the knowledge and practice required to provide specialized treatment for children and adolescents with common dental needs as well as complex medical conditions.  I am dedicated to providing the best possible experience for my patients.  To ensure this level of care, I have extensive training in preventive and restorative dentistry, including dental treatment under general anesthesia.

In order to maintain the highest level of specialty knowledge, I attend meetings and seminars throughout the year, providing me access to the most advanced techniques and equipment in pediatric dentistry.  I am a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.  I am a Diplomate of the American Board Pediatric Dentistry.

I live in Minneapolis with my husband.  Together, we enjoy bicycling, cheering for the Minnesota Wild, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Julie Haman grew up in North Dakota and received her BS in biology from the University of North Dakota. She graduated from Creighton University Dental School in 2004. Following dental school, Dr. Haman practiced as a general dentist in Colorado for two years.  While practicing there, she decided to dedicate her career to treating children.

Dr. Haman completed a pediatric dental residency in 2008 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. After her specialty training, she practiced in a private pediatric dental clinic in Lincoln, Nebraska, for two and a half years. Dr. Haman is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Academy. She is also a Diplomate of the Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Haman is very excited to be closer to her home state of North Dakota. She enjoys the great outdoors of Minnesota with her dog Indie, who loves to play in the snow. Dr. Haman is an avid runner and has recently participated in a couple of triathlons. She also enjoys snowboarding, cross country skiing, and camping.

Insurance

St. Paul Pediatric Dentistry accepts most dental insurances and medical assistance programs. Please call us if you have questions concerning your specific insurance carrier.

Scheduling

We attempt to schedule appointments at your convenience.  For this reason we offer early morning appointments before school and later afternoon appointments after school.  Keep in mind, these are very popular appointments and fill up quickly.

In order for patients to have the best dental experience possible, we schedule certain patients only in the morning.  Young children need to be seen in the morning as they tend to be more cooperative.  School aged children requiring multiple appointments for treatment will also be scheduled in the morning when they are less tired and more likely to cooperate.

Rescheduling or Canceling Appointments

Since appointed times are reserved specifically for each patient, we ask that you please notify our office at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled time if you are unable to keep your appointment.  We realize that emergencies occur and we ask for you assistance in this matter.

Late Arrival

In order to ensure that all patients are seen at their appointed time, St. Paul Pediatric Dentistry asks that patients arrive on time for each appointment.  Any patient arriving more than 10 minutes late may be asked to reschedule at the staff's discretion.

Parental Involvement

New environments can be intimidating for some children.  If the child is nervous or anxious about their dental appointment, parents are asked to accompany the child during their first visit.  As the child becomes familiar with our office and staff members, he or she will become more comfortable.  We encourage parents to allow them to demonstrate independence at subsequent visit.

A parent's presence during restorative treatment is determined on a case-by-case basis.  We typically find that children behave much better without their parents at the dental chair.

Schedule a Visit for Your Child Today!

Pediatric Dentists, like Dr. Julie and Dr. Carmen, specialize in the treatment and prevention of dental disease, as well as the overall oral health of children. Through extra years of schooling, training, experience, and certification, a pediatric dentist is uniquely qualified to treat the dental needs of infants, children, adolescents and those with special health care needs.

Why Choose a Pediatric Dentist?

A pediatric patient not only has a different dentition than adults but he/she may have specific dental and behavioral needs that are unique to a child. These needs may include orthodontics, sealants, fluoride applications or home treatments, or just simply education in oral hygiene. In addition to treating existing dental problems, our office focuses on prevention through patient and parent education.

We like to feel that you and your child do not come to our office to have their ”cavities fixed” but rather to prevent them. We strive to provide all of the educational tools necessary for our patients to enjoy a cavity-free future.
